Dr Gerald Segal joined Chadstone Road Clinic in 1975 and quickly established himself as a driving force in practice modernisation. He introduced an individual unit record system to replace the clinic's family-based filing and later led the implementation of one of the first computerised medical management systems in Australian general practice. By 1983, Chadstone Medical was widely recognised as a digital leader, inspiring comparable adoption across the industry. Outside the clinic, Dr Segal made a substantial contribution to the medical profession through his involvement with the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Acting on the encouragement of Dr Rosenhain, he progressed from local to national engagement, ultimately serving as President of AMA Victoria in 1997. His advocacy supported key public health outcomes, including the strengthening of food safety regulations, the prohibition of smoking in hospitality venues, and the successful opposition to a toxic waste development in Werribee. Clinically, Dr Segal holds a broad and uncommon skill set. Trained initially in Sports Medicine, Paediatrics, and Asthma, he later added obstetrics and anaesthetics to his practice — guided by esteemed colleagues — making him one of the few GPs in Australia with such a diverse clinical scope. With over 50 years in practice, Dr Segal continues to serve multigenerational families at Chadstone Road Clinic, many of whom have been under his care across three or more generations.
